The golden quadrilateral is highway network connecting many important industrial and cultural cities if India. When we mark the cities connecting this highway, a quadrilateral sorts of shape is formed and hence its name. Cities connected via this golden quadrilateral are Mumbai , Kolkata , Delhi and Chennai. Other metropolises also connected by the network are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Kanpur, Pune, Surat, Nellore, Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam. The length of this route is approximately 3850 kms.
This golden quadrilateral is formed between the following cities:
1.     Delhi – Kolkata
2.     Delhi – Mumbai
3.     Mumbai – Chennai
4.     Chennai – Kolkata


Delhi – Kolkata :
Mainly NH 2 lies on this route. The length of this highway is  1453 kms.  It  connects  the states of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. It constitutes a major portion of the historical Grand Trunk Road along with NH 91 and NH 1 in India. Other cities connected by this highway Faridabad, Mathura, Agra, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Dhanbad and Asansol.
Delhi – Mumbai :

 It is the busiest highway in the subcontinent, as it connects the national capital Delhi to the financial capital Mumbai, as well as important cities Gurgaon, Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat. The total length is 1428kms . Before entering downtown Mumbai, NH 8 passes through nearly all the suburbs on the western line of Mumbai Suburban Railway, where it is popularly known as Western Express Highway.
Mumbai – Chennai :
It comprises mainly of national highway 44 and national highway 48. Its length is 2807 km. it cover states like Delhi, Haryana, rajasthan, Gujarat,Maharashtra, tamil nadu and Karnataka.
Kolkata – Chennai :
This covers NH6 from Kolkata to Chennai, NH60 (Kharagpur to Balasore) and NH5 (Balasore to Chennai). Total stretch is 1684km. States include West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Tamil Nadu.
